We love kicking off summer in style with the Mattress Factory’s Urban Garden Party on the North Side. June 17 has been circled on the calendar, and we’re picking out our hautest garb for the “From Hollywood to Paradise” themed evening. From previous experience, we know to nibble lightly throughout the day, because All in Good Taste’s Bob Sendall caters — he also hosts the VIP Pre-Party. Read More

For the October/November 2011 issue of Edible Allegheny Magazine, WHIRL Publishing’s title aimed at promoting local food and farms, we warmed up during the brisk fall season with soups and stews. Photographer Adam Milliron took advantage of the perfect setting in Bob Sendall’s kitchen at All in Good Taste productions to turn up the heat on the shoot.
“My favorite shoot was at Bob Sendall’s kitchen for the fall stews spread, which we shot for the October/November issue of Edible Allegheny Magazine. His kitchen lent itself very easily to the shoot. I was able to pull fresh ingredients form his garden and use items from his kitchen that really added to the shots. Read More

For the past year, Sendall and Lynda Waggoner, Fallingwater’s director and vice president of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, have been brainstorming and planning a whimsical event to celebrate the history and continuing importance of Frank Lloyd Wright’s famous design. where the Mattress Factory’s uber-hip Urban Garden Party was held Friday evening. Inside and out, it was a mob scene in the best sense of the word, with close to 1,000 guests arriving in waves for first-rate people-watching. The Hollywood theme brought out the best in those inclined to cooperate with such things. It started with party chairs Dr. Michael White and Rick LeBeau, channeling Groucho pretty convincingly. A bevy of Audrey Hepburns, some gorgeous drag queens and numerous starlets and swashbucklers congregated in the gardens and under a big top.
Earlier, Bossa Nova and All in Good Taste’s Bob Sendall hosted the VIP party, with trays of his signature Toffee Taboo being passed along with lamb pizza and other delicacies.

There are a few things that seem to go hand in hand when one is in the presence of Archbishop of Washington Cardinal Donald Wuerl, and on Saturday, it didn’t take too long before we were able to pin point exactly what was on everyone’s mind as His Eminence graciously made the rounds during the Pittsburgh Opera’s Maecenas Ball.
“My hands are sweating and I’m not even Catholic!” mused Kathe Patrinos, who was being lauded along with her plus-one, Jim, with the Maecenas Award.
More than 350 socials swarmed into the Opera’s headquarters on Liberty Avenue for what was being talked about as the hottest ticket in town (at $750 a pop). Upon entrance, you’d think you were standing in the midst of a spectacularly lush cocktail lounge accented by vibrant red lighting that most of us couldn’t believe had been a parking garage just a week earlier, the handywork of All in Good Taste Productions and the man behind the curtain, Bob Sendall.
“I was here running the sweeper at 10 o’clock this morning,” he laughed.

Hamburgers, French fries and macaroni and cheese as hors d’oeuvres? If it’s a Play Date at the Children’s Museum, what could be better? The annual benefit on Friday had a real, sit-down dinner (catered by Bob Sendall and All in Good Taste) but the cocktail portion of the evening appealed to the kid in all of the 250 or so guests. Heather McBrier (with Jim) and Susan Baierl (with Lee) chaired the gala, with Bob Denove and Blaise Larkin serving as corporate chairs. Board president Evan Rosenberg welcomed guests before Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield received the Great Friend of Children Award (accepted by executive VP David O’Brien), and Marty Davis did the live auction with his usual wit.
